Concert Music World Premier on April 25, 2011

This percussion ensemble work was conceived one sleepless night when my young daughter was experiencing recurring nightmares. “I don’t want to dance!” and “I can’t dance anymore!” was all she could mumble to me as I tried to console her. I laid awake all night thinking about the bizarre incongruency between dancing and terror. I immediately wondered what type of music would possibly be playing during this nightmare about dancing. “Requiescence” is characterized as a dance for percussion and evokes a dream-like atmosphere that follows the sleep pattern from peacefully drowsy, to frightfully dreamy. After a long passage of increasing intensity and speed the piece abruptly culminates, as most nightmares do. “Requiescence” was world-premiered by the Rowan University Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Dean Witten.
